Integrated pest management

Our industry approach

The IPM approach aims to reduce pest establishment and population growth through: regular monitoring; using cultural and physical practices to make the environment less conducive for insects; and biological options such as encouraging predatory insects or mating disruption techniques. While chemical pesticides play a part in IPM their use is targeted to minimise impacts on beneficial insects. A well-run IPM program should result in reduced use and reliance on synthetic pesticides.

Investment into IPM has focused on developing suitable strategies and control options for the Australian growing environment focusing on pests of economic importance such as carpophilus beetle and carob moth.
